You have been tasked to approach this case study from the perspective of a diplomatic representative and formulate your case study on a current example of diplomacy and conflict resolution in action. Your case may focus globally, regionally, or on a specific country and reflect the point of view of the particular country or region as well as provide a global perspective. In-depth analysis of the historical, economic, political and social factors involved with the issue will presented. As well, your case study will combine the theoretical perspective you gain from the course and will include relevant theory and ideas from at least three practitioners in the field and two theorists in diplomacy and conflict resolution. Close consideration and presentation of the foreign policy perspective of the chosen country/region is necessitated and will demonstrate how its outlook and policies dictate its current diplomatic stance. Consideration of all involved actors is required and should consider leadership and organization style (as reviewed in Allison and Zelikow) from the country’s head of state to organizations (both governmental and non-governmental) to its citizens. In considering an ongoing diplomatic case, crisis, or opportunity for conflict resolution, you can also provide a practical, hands-on approach to resolving the case based on previous diplomatic cases and current knowledge from the field delineated as recommendations. This is where you have the opportunity for creative reflection and idea generation as you put forth your own individual spin on a crisis in action.
The paper should involve the background of the issue, an analysis, and specific recommendations for action. Papers should be no more than 8-10 pages, double spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman or Calibri font.
