Sexual Identity Development
Several theories have been advanced concerning the development of lesbian, gay, or bisexual identity. Cass’s theory proposes that sexual identity forms through a series of up to six stages that are also referred to as the coming-out process. Different people proceed through these stages differently, and a person’s perceptions of his or her sexual orientation may shift over time.
